Energy and Enthusiasm,
this is how our Bubbles are made

In 2006, two passionate bubbly-lovers teamed up with the common goal of producing one of the finest Vintage Méthode Cap Classiques; thirteen years later the unconventional duo of Gerrit Maritz and Albert Ahrens are making their goal an annual reality.

While Albert puts his unsurpassed talents and perfectionist tendencies into ensuring that no sip of GM&AHRENS sparkles will ever disappoint, the dynamic duo collectively ensure sensory delights in everything that surrounds our bubbly. From the painstaking attention to detail of the pewter and bronze label, to the striking and unorthodox presentation concept of ‘bottles of five’ in beautiful, luxe packaging, the House of GM&AHRENS exclaims style and pizzazz from crafting right through to sipping.

Co-founder Gerrit Maritz gets transported back to his university days studying Law, where every Spring Day he annually lived through the ‘Champagne Breakfast’ starting at 6:15am. This tradition made such an impression on him that he was adamant to carry it through his adult life and share it with as many like-minded bubbly-lovers as possible; what better way to accomplish this than founding a bubbly house?

“I wanted to make my own bubbles to celebrate life, live life, and celebrate the privilege to live life”

Winemaker Albert Ahrens’ bubbly-affair started in 2003 while experiencing the grape harvest in Champagne. The lasting impression was such that he returned a year later with his wife Heidi, to celebrate their just-married status with a working honeymoon, harvesting side-by-side between the vines of Champagne, marking important milestones of his two great loves.

“It is a process that is equal parts patience and magic … making you wait four years to know whether you have a winner”

Our bubbly parties are something to behold: gone are the stuffy airs and graces associated with bubbly-drinking of a bygone era, replaced instead by the pizzazz and showmanship of our enthusiastic founders. If ever you’ve wanted to experience an air sabrage, sabrage by champagne glass, or a hot-air balloon experience coupled with the excitement of tasting our latest releases, our bubbly parties and tastings are just the ticket. We look forward to welcoming you!
